This is a terrific standard game. Although Richmond won by 15 points, the most eye-catching individuals are actually the Bays players, in Marker, Phyllis, Cornes and Sandilands. Thanks to SA Football Video Archive for this upload. “The sides tossed to see who could wear their regular strip. Glenelg lost and were forced to wear the plain yellow guernseys.”

This was a semi-final. In the other semi (same day, same ground) Subiaco beat the small north east Tasmanian town of Scottsdale. 34,000 attended the semis, played at the Adelaide Oval.
Richmond beat Subiaco in the final (again at the Adelaide Oval) with 4 goals from Rex Hunt. Glenelg spiflicated poor Scottsdale in the 3rd place playoff. With the home team eliminated from the final, only 9491 attended that day’s two games.
SEMI Subiaco 16.14 (110) d Scottsdale 11.12 (78)
SEMI Richmond 19.16 (130) d Glenelg 16.19 (115)
3rd PLACE PLAYOFF Glenelg 29.27 (201) d Scottsdale 10.8 (68)

Speaking of Glenelg “spiflicating” teams, I was at Glenelg Oval in (I think?) 1975 when the Bays smashed Central Districts, kicking 49.23 – with John “Snout” McFarlane hitting the post in the dying stages that would have been goal number 50!!!! Great memories.
